What Is This?

Do you enjoy thinking and learning? Me too. Did you know that generalists, those who know about a lot of subjects, can often outperform specialists?

David Epstein argues that generalists rather than specialists are better equipped to solve problems in today’s complex world. I read David Epstein’s book (Range Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World), and subscribed to his Range Widely. I am a generalist and by nature I am a teacher. I post articles in the following sections: Religion, Politics, Business, Health, and Personal Development.

The model of the world that I enjoy starts with two questions: Why and How?

Why were we created? I had an experience of being conscious - completely aware - but nothing to be aware of. Imagine no sights, no sounds, no smells, nothing to touch, nothing to taste. It was very peaceful. I was quickly bored. The universe was created so that the Creator could have an experience. That is the Big Why.

How do we get free will? Some are content to have faith and say - God gave us free will. I’m interested in the physics. Either 1) We don’t have free will. or 2) We are spirits somehow controlling our bodies.

From there I look at our bodies as biorobots. Our brains can be programmed. The programs can be run without our active control. We can, as spirits, program our brains or alter the programming. What programs are helpful? What programs are not? Those are questions I look at in the other sections.

I have an undergrad degree in chemistry, MBA, Doctor of Chiropractic, and a real estate license. I was trained as a systems engineer by IBM (know a little about programming). I have met my "spirit guides" through a medium. I've experienced mental telepathy. I've experienced spiritual love that left me in tears. I've read books and research papers on how the brain works.

All that said, I am frequently wrong. I know that is how the brain works. Anybody who thinks otherwise is naive.

My wife and I have been married since 1978. We have four children and seven grandchildren. We enjoy camping in our travel trailer. My hobbies include fishing, and hunting. I recently took up golf and am learning to play piano.

I like to search for truth and enjoy learning. I hope these articles will “help you think it through.” If you find you disagree, feel free to comment. Remember to use evidence and reason. I will do my best to see your side. I like to say, “I’m never wrong for long. I just change my mind.”
